>> Storytime - Fibroids, Surgery And My Personal Experience With It!
Hello dear readers, I
want to take the time to write about this topic because first of all,
I could barely find anything about it online (at least not from a
personal perspective on a Blog) and secondly, because I was personally
affected by it more than a year ago. Fibroids, are by definition, 'non-cancerous growths
that develop in or around the womb (uterus). The growths are made up
of muscle and fibrous tissue and vary in size. They're sometimes
known as uterine myomas or leiomyomas.' They are rather common and
many women are not aware they have any, since they vary in size and
often have no symptoms.
Now back to my personal
case. I have had a fibroid, that had reached a size, with which it
could potentially interfere with other functions of the body. There are several ways to treat a fibroid. I have had a consultation with the doctor and he told me, that I needed to undergo surgery and recover at the hospital for about 3 days after that. I was living in the UK at the time but it had been recommended to me to get this procedure done in Germany. Also, I was surprised
to find out singer Sara Bareilles went through the same thing before me, as I have read on her instagram.
So I have had my surgery in my home country and I am very thankful that it is behind me now. After that I was in recovery mode. I was not able to think any further, than to the day of the surgery. I was really worried. I know there are worse things, but this article is about fibroids. Since I was asleep during the procedure, I can't say much about it other than, I have been told it went well. My doc was friendly and explained everything to me beforehand. In my case they made 3 small belly cuts, which they later closed with stitches. Sounds unreal. The thread was self dissolving and that was great news to me.
Overall, I felt very well taken care of and I did let them know too. This is the short version of it and I hope this post will help someone who is going through the same thing or has their surgery still coming up. As a German, we always ask many questions and I think if you are well informed and read personal summaries like this it can be a great support to you.
